Yamamoto Tsunetomo
Yamamoto Tsunetomo, an eminent figure of 17th-century Japan, is best known for his seminal work, "Hagakure", a text that explores the philosophy of bushido—the way of the warrior.
Born in 1659 in what is now Saga Prefecture, Tsunetomo was a samurai who dedicated his life to the service of his lord, and later, to the contemplation of samurai ethics and ideals following his lord's death. "Hagakure", written between 1709 and 1716, serves as a reflective guide on loyalty, honour, and the spirit of the warrior.
Through its succinct aphorisms and profound insights, Tsunetomo's wisdom has transcended time, offering guidance not only to samurai but to anyone seeking a deeper understanding of duty and personal conduct.
His teachings continue to influence modern interpretations of leadership and integrity, cementing his legacy as a key thinker in the cultural and philosophical landscape of Japan.
